Oseltamivir 75 mg capsules
What is Oseltamivir and what is it used for?
Oseltamivir is a medication that belongs to a class of drugs called "influenza neuraminidase inhibitors."
It is used to treat influenza in patients 1 year of age or older who have had symptoms for no more than 48 hours and to prevent influenza in patients 1 year of age or older.
Influenza is a viral respiratory infection also known as the flu, characterized by signs and symptoms such as fever, chills, sore throat, cough, stuffy or runny nose, headache, fatigue, and body aches.
Do not take oseltamivir.
If you are allergic to oseltamivir or any of the ingredients in this medication, tell your doctor about the allergy and any signs you experience.
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you experience allergic reactions such as shortness of breath, rash, swelling of the face or neck, low blood pressure, or dizziness. This medicine is not a substitute for the annual flu vaccine.
This medication may increase the risk of neuropsychiatric symptoms. Talk to your doctor if you experience signs such as changes in behavior or confusion.
Possible side effects
Possible side effects of oseltamivir are allergic reactions such as skin rash, behavior changes or confusion, nausea, and vomiting.
Other medications and oseltamivir
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines. Live attenuated influenza vaccine (nasal flu vaccine) should not be given until two days after stopping oseltamivir. Do not take oseltamivir until at least two weeks after receiving live attenuated nasal flu vaccine, unless your doctor recommends it.
How to take oseltamivir
To treat influenza:
Take oseltamivir by mouth twice a day for 5 days, once in the morning and once in the evening.
To prevent the flu if someone in your home has the flu:
Take oseltamivir by mouth once a day for 10 days or for as long as your doctor tells you to.
To prevent the flu if you have been exposed to the flu due to an outbreak in your community:
Take oseltamivir by mouth once daily for up to 6 weeks. Follow your doctor's specific directions.
Be sure to start taking the medication as soon as your flu symptoms begin or right after you are exposed to the virus.
Call your doctor if you do not feel better after 48 hours of starting treatment or if you start experiencing new signs or symptoms.
Be sure to take the full course of treatment even if you start to feel better.
Take the capsule with or without food.
If you have stomach pain, you can take the medicine with milk or a snack.
Take one capsule with a full glass of water.
Take at the same time every day.
Do not take more or less than prescribed by your doctor.
Do not stop taking the medicine before the end of the specified period, even if you start to feel better.
How to store oseltamivir
Store capsules at room temperature (25°C).
Keep this medicine out of reach of children and pets.
Do not use the medicine after the expiry date printed on the carton.
Keep the medicine in its original package to protect it from moisture and light.
Do not use damaged capsules.
Do not dispose of medicines via wastewater or household waste.
